Nostalgia Street 1

Recently, led our hiking group for another urban walk. A changed from our usual trail hikes. The raining season makes the trails very muddy and it's such a chore to clean off all the mud after the hikes. So here were at Everton Rd, after a short walk from Chinatown MRT.

There are lots of changes I noticed from the time I was here in 2010. The dilapidated house top left was no longer there. Replace by a new building. Most of the houses here have been restored. Photo 4 bottom right taken in 2010 is from my previous "Streetscene" blog. The Fairfield School photo 2 which was hoarded up for restoration back then is about to open and its now a spanking new.

We had a great time walking around and admiring the architecture here. The narrow street reminded me of those at Bali Lane which according to "Time Out Index" was voted as one of the coolest street in the world. Incidentally, Everton Rd also made it on the list.

There are wall murals that were painted by Artist Mr. Yip Yew Chong here. The same gentleman whose works can be found in many parts of the shop house-walls at Chinatown. Online sources says Mr Yip used to live around here.

After Everton Road, one of us suggested we try the famous Ang Ku Kueh stall that is nearby. So onward we headed to the stall that is located at the HDB flats next to Cantonment Road.

One of the hiker generously bought a box of Ang Ku Kuehs for the whole group to try. The common verdict? Unanimously we all agreed that it lives up to its reputation. The skin is soft and the bean paste not too sweet. With my curiosity, not to mention my appetite satisfied, I made a mental note of the stall location as I do not of it before. Next....
